Purchased from Jane Maxwell, who’s husband is believed to be a direct descendant of Johnathon Maxwell, the founder of the Maxwell car company, the Maxwells’ owned several Maxwells as well as one of the very last produced prior to Walter P Chrysler’s termination of the brand.
The Model RS is the only Maxwell to adopt the popular turtle deck treatment to the rear body, giving a somewhat sporty appearance compared to other Maxwell’s of the day. Mechanically, it is very similar to all other 2-cylinder Maxwell’s with the unique internal planetary gearbox system, housed in a sealed oil bath. This particular Maxwell is also unusual in the fact that it is a Southern Wide track vehicle, with a 4” wider front and rear axel to accommodate the road conditions and an unusual spring treatment to accommodate the wider axels.
